Nordson YESTECH, a subsidiary of Nordson Corporation and a leading supplier of automated optical and x-ray inspection systems for the electronics industry, announced today that it has provided FX Series automated optical inspection systems to Cooper Microelectronics Inc. (CMI), an ODM and contract manufacturer, specializing in industrial controls and all electronics related services. CMI will utilize Nordson YESTECH’s FX AOI for automated inspection of printed circuit assemblies at their facility in Irvine, California.

CMI awarded the contract to Nordson YESTECH, after assessing competitive systems, based on their advanced inspection technology, proven accuracy and superior customer support. Nordson YESTECH’s user-friendly software was also a key factor in CMI’s decision, offering faster set up and customized programming to meet their needs.

“After two days of training our operator was able to program most of our assemblies,” said Ken Cooper, president of CMI. “The FX AOI has yet to miss a defect that we’ve noticed, detecting solder connection quality--even on the bottom side of a through-hole PCB assembly. The FX series delivers a complete inspection solution, providing advanced automated inspection of:

• Solder defects;
• Lead defects;
• Component presence and position;
• Correct part/polarity;
• Through-hole parts; and
• Paste.

The FX Series AOI is equally well suited for high-volume or high-mix manufacturing environments, providing fast throughput and high resolution for inspection of 010005 components.

Programming is fast and easy; operators typically take less than 1 hour to create a complete inspection program, including solder inspection. The system utilizes a standard package library to simplify training and insure program portability across manufacturing lines. And because the FX Series is configurable for all line positions, it is equally effective for paste, pre/post-reflow and final assembly inspection. Off-line programming maximizes machine utilization and real-time SPC monitoring provides a valuable yield enhancement solution.
